Sports Rules • If an opponent touches the ball, all the passing side is eligible to receive the ball. • A game is forfeited if a team does not have at least two players on the court. • If the kicker breaks a rule, the defending side is awarded an indirect free kick. • A runner is out if he fails to beat a throw to the base to which he is running. • If a goaltender leaves the vicinity of his crease, a minor penalty will be assessed.

Conditional Statements, cont. “If X, then Y.” can be abbreviated: X Y Read it out loud as “X implies Y.”
Converses • If it is snowing, then it is cold.
Converses • If it is cold, then it is snowing. ?
Converses • “If Y then X” is the converse of “If X then Y.” • It is not the same. • It is not equivalent, either. • Our example of converses: If it’s snowing outside, then it’s cold outside. versus If it’s cold outside, then it’s snowing outside.
Practice • Write the statement, “If I am tired, I rest.” Then: • Label the hypothesis; label the conclusion. • Write the converse. • Rewrite in “If ___, then ___” form: • I’ll be late if I get to school after 8:15. • All dogs have fur.
