  1. Embry Women’s Health OB-GYN located in Mesa, AZ Embry Women’s Health is committed to providing women in Mesa, Arizona, and the surrounding Phoenix communities, personalized, in-depth medical care that focuses on the patient and her individual concerns. Joellen Embry, WHNP founded the practice and brought like-minded healthcare professionals Barbara Lockwood, WHNP and Margaret Tyson, FNP onboard to realize her goal of combining compassion with advanced, comprehensive treatment for their patients. These skilled nurse practitioners specialize in all issues related to your gynecological health, including endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

  2. Our Services Endometriosis What is endometriosis? Endometriosis occurs when the tissue, or endometrium, lining the uterus grows outside the uterus. Endometriosis most commonly affects the fallopian tubes and ovaries, as well as the tissues lining the pelvis. Although displaced from its normal location, the endometrial tissue continues to act as it does in the uterus, thickening and then breaking down and bleeding during the menstrual cycle. This causes significant pain and may eventually produce thickened fibrous tissue, or adhesions, in the pelvic region that can lead to infertility. Endometriosis usually starts a few years after menarche — onset of periods — becomes asymptomatic during pregnancy, and ends with menopause if you’re not on hormone therapy.

  3. Our Services BladderControl What’s the bladder’s role in UI? The bladder is a muscular organ shaped like an upside-down teardrop that sits between the pelvic bones. This hollow organ expands as it fills with urine draining from the kidneys. A normal bladder can hold up to 2 cups of fluid. When your bladder signals the brain that it’s full, your neurological system sends a message to the bladder wall muscles to squeeze or contract. At the same time, your brain instructs the internal and external sphincter muscles holding urine in the bladder to relax so that it can empty. Weakened or malfunctioning muscles controlling the bladder and problems with neurological signals from the brain can disrupt the process and cause UI.

  4. Our Services Pregnancy What is preconception care? Coming in for a visit before conception gives you the opportunity to discuss your pregnancy plans with one of the skilled nurse practitioners at Embry Women’s Health. Your practitioner will take the time to discuss your medical history, your family’s medical history, as well as your current health. She’ll answer your questions and discuss the ways you can take care of yourself before, during, and after pregnancy. The visit will include a physical exam, and the nurse practitioner may also order screening lab work and genetic testing.
