  3. 5th Year • What a Sub-intern “supposed” to do ? • See patients. • Take Hx. • Do Physical Exam. • Take rounds with the team. • Involve yourself in the discussion and management plan. • Follow up your patients • You can work as an intern.. Just without the paper work.

  6. Surgery • 11 hours • Lectures .. 1st week .. ( 9 AM - 3 PM) • Coordinator: • Dr.Hamad Al-qahtani.

  7. Surgery • Group distributed: • Half start GS. • Half start Subspecialty. • Plastic + Neuro. • Vascular + Cardiac. • Thoracic + Pediatric. • Urology. • Anesthesia (BLS + ACLS)

  8. Surgery • References: • Principles & practice of surgery. • Churchill’s Pocket Surgery. • Surgical Recall. • For OSCE: • Dr.Hamad Al-Qahtani Book • Previous OSCEs

  9. Surgery • Marks: • 1st Written (20 marks) • 2nd Written (20 marks) • Attendance (10 marks) • OSCE (50 marks)

  11. Pediatrics • 11 Hours • Coordinator: • Dr. Hani Temsah. • Lectures First 2 weeks.

  12. Pediatrics • Group distributed to " A, B, C " : • A= Whole rotation at KKUH • B= 6 weeks KKUH, 6 weeks KSMC • C= 6 weeks KSMC, 6 weeks KKUH • During the rotation.. Each subgroup will have sessions about various subjects that were not covered in lectures. (only difference in timing)

  13. Pediatrics • Clerking: • 3 clerking (first without marks, last two with marks). • Follow the guidelines (SOAP) • Write your plan. • Follow up your patient.

  14. Pediatrics • References: • Illustrated Textbook of Pediatrics. • First Aid. • Kaplan Videos. • OSCE: • Booklet 64 pages “OSCE”

  15. Pediatrics • Marks: • OSCE 20 • Clerking 15 • First Written 25 • Final Written 40

  17. Medicine • 11 hours • Lectures every Wednesday , sometimes Tuesday. ( 2 – 3 lectures) • Coordinator: • Dr.AnwarJammah. • Dr. IramKiani. • Distribution: • 2 sub-specialties ( 6 weeks , 5 weeks)

  18. Medicine • Bed-side teaching afternoon (1- 4 PM) • Saturday " or " Sunday " or " Monday. • Clinical Approach Morning (7:45- 8:30 AM) • ER (Twice .. Random Distribution) • Neuro Sessions (Every Tuesday 10:00 AM) • Long-Case. • Short Case. • Present once.

  19. Medicine • What to do in the days that don’t have lectures or sessions at? • Be with your team.. You are supposed to do rounds with them & then sign the attendance sheet you are given. • Ask for extra sessions that will benefit you in the OSCE (ECG , ABG, X-Ray, LFT, TFT)

  20. Medicine • Reference: • Step-up to Medicine. • Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine (for acute cases mainly,, at the end of the book). • Kaplan Videos. • MKSAP 4 !!

  21. Medicine • OSCE: • مذكرة عبد الملـك Interpretation. • مذكرة عبدالمحسن Investigations. • Old OSCEs • Ethics. (Word Document) • Hx, Exam, Ethics, Interpretation.

  22. Medicine • Marks: • 30 MCQs final. • 60 OSCE!! • 10 Evaluation ( 5 each sub-specialty).
