  3. 1890 Extension (Sec 1444) • Funds appropriated under this section shall be used for expenses of conducting extension programs and activities, and for contributing to the retirement of employees. • 18 universities eligible through 2015 • Central State University is eligible in 2016

  4. 1890 Extension (Sec 1444) Funding range per institution in 2015: $1.18 million to $4.4 million 100% Match; potential 50% waiver

  5. 1890 Extension (Sec 1444) Range of Programs Small, limited resource farmers (crops & livestock) Urban Forestry Natural Resource Mgt Youth Leadership, STEM Family nutrition, health, well-being Community & Economic Development

  6. 1890 Extension (Sec 1444) Lincoln University Extension: The Innovative Small Farmers’ Outreach Program (ISFOP) helps underserved small farmers/ranchers to raise the level of efficiency on their farms while taking good care of the soil, water and the environment. Topics range from community gardening to keeping records. ISFOP also focuses on urban food production and helps limited-resource minority residents (including elderly) get access to fresh, nutritious produce.

  13. 1890 CBG – Alcorn State University • Goal: Enhance the productivity of small farm crops in rural Mississippi through integration of plant disease diagnostics, research demonstrations, training programs and extension efforts. • provide hands-on plant pathology education at ASU farms and participating farmers' fields; • integrate plant disease diagnosis into extension services; develop plant disease diagnosis training module

  15. 1890 Facilities Purpose - Intended for the acquisition and improvement of agricultural and food sciences facilities and equipment, including libraries. Equipment (computers, software Land Buildings Vehicles (tractors, combines, etc.) The expenditure of funds awarded under these grants are limited to and other related costs which are or will be used in the administration and conduct of approved research, teaching and extension activities.
