HOOK It was a stormy and foggy night on the remote Tatoosh island off of the Olympic Peninsula 14 year old Nathan was working at the lighthouse when the fog parted for a moment and he saw stunned-looking sailors In the morning, Nathan discovered the ship got wrecked and there were no survivors. But what about the unexplained footprints on the beach?

  3. SUMMARY • Nathan & Lighthouse George from the Makah tribe paddle around and hunting for salmon, seal & whales. • Along the way, they discover clues to the missing survivor. Why was the captain murdered? • Nathan saw a flickering fire at Fuca’s Pillar and a hairy man with a knife a sea cove • A suspicious new man came to town and Nathan saw him digging up a graveyard. RECOMMENDATION • I recommend this book because it makes you want to know what is going to happen next • You’ll like it because the story takes place here in Washington on the • Olympic Peninsula in the 1870s • The book won the Edgar Allen Poe Award for Best Mystery • Anyone who wants an adventure and mystery will be guaranteed to like this book!

CLOSING Nathan finds an old Makah canoe hanging in the trees It is a ghost canoe I’m going to read you part of the book when he discovers the canoe (read paragraph on p 54) What is this ghost canoe?
