  2. About the Career • Criminalist supervise, evaluate, investigate, and analyze crime scenes • Investigate all types of crime scenes • Robbery, murder, assaults, burglaries • Mainly spend time processing physical evidence

  3. About the career • Work 40 hours a week • A lot of overtime if on a case • Must be available o respond 24 hours a day • Required to carry a gun at all times

  4. How is This Related to Crime • CSI’s are in charge of collecting physical evidence • Physical evidence is better than testimonial • Very important in solving the crime

  5. How is it Related to Crime • They also analyze the crime scene to see what happened • Helps to reconstruct what happened

  6. Education Needed • A four year degree is needed • Generally in science ( Biology or Chemistry) • Less education is needed for a crime scene technician • Formal training is needed for the job • Police investigative abilities • Knowledge about search and seizure

  7. Employment Opportunities • The U.S. Department of Labor says that jobs opportunities are expect to go up by 20% • Much faster than average employment growth • Criminalists are always in need because there are always crimes that need to be solved

  8. Salary • According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics report the mean salary is $55,730 • Somemake up to $90,000 and some make as low as $32,000 • Salary depends on amount of education and experience

  9. Related Careers • Any career in Forensic science once you begin • Depending on training • Criminalist would also be an option • Same job just once step higher • Crime lab technicians or forensic scientists are also related to this occupation
