  1. Canon-McMillan High School Graduation Project Overview

  2. Purpose & Focus The successful completion of the graduation project will show that a student can: • Plan • Produce • Analyze • Synthesize • Evaluate …information and/or skills to produce an end product and communicate significant knowledge and understanding about that product to others.

  3. Graduation Project…defined The Graduation Project is to be a well-organized program which requires the student to plan, prepare, and/or research information in order to successfully complete an item/model that connects several subject areas and showcases the students’ talents and interests.

  4. Graduation Project Options • Independent Project • Volunteer Service Project (Community Service) • Western Area Career & Technology Center

  5. Independent Project • A research-based project that entails exploration based upon a student’s particular interest. The independent project includes a Works Cited page as part of the research paper.

  6. Independent Project Ideas • Communications • Mathematics • Science & Technology • Environment/ Ecology • Citizenship • Arts & Humanities • Career Education/ Work • Wellness & Fitness • Home Economics

  7. Volunteer Service Requirements • At least 60 documented (by a supervisor) hours beyond the regular hours of the school day • Hours may begin to count no sooner than the first day of the freshmen year • All 60 hours do not have to be from the same place • No community service that results from legal action or any inappropriate behavior (illegal or otherwise) may be counted toward the 60 hours • Cannot result from fundraising, or for pay. There also can be no form of remuneration (i.e., money, free tickets, membership, etc)

  8. Project Components • According to the rubrics, students are evaluated on the following components: • Project Report* • Product • Presentation *Independent Projects must include a works cited page for the Project Report

  9. Final Rubric FINAL RATING SCORE SHEET Student’s Name Project Date___ *Consensus should be reached when the panel determines the ratings in each component and the final rating.   10. Class of 2009 • Exit Date: Friday, April 18, 2008 • Individual appointment exit times, locations, and teams assigned • Prepare for oral presentation, product display, and submission of paper • Final Ratings will come via the Guidance Office in the form of a certificate. Students will not be informed of their final rating at the time of the exit appointment.
