  2. Azerbaycan (azerb. Azərbaycan Respublikası) — country in south-western Asia. Date of independence, May 28, 1918 (from the Soviet Union: 18 October 1991) It shares borders with Russia and Georgia to the north, Armenia to the west, Iran to the south and Turkey in the west. Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic - exclave of Azerbaijan. Area of Azerbaijan - 86.6 thousand square meters. km - the largest of the Transcaucasian republics.

  3. ARMS AND FLAG OF AZERBAIJAN Flag and coat of arms was approved in 1918 as the national flag of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. After independence in 1991, the flag was adopted on February 5 in the national flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

  4. Contract of the Century • September 20, 1994 at the Palace "Gulistan", in Baku, there was an agreement that because of its great significance to be called "contract of the century". From other countries to Azerbaijan imported mainly finished products: machines, a variety of agricultural machinery, cars, clothes and food. • Azerbaijan's GDP growth is mostly due to increased production and export of hydrocarbons.

The president is elected by popular vote for five years, and appoints all government officials.         The highest legislative body of Azerbaijan - unicameral National Assembly (125 members), elected by popular vote for a five-year term in single-seat constituencies. Foreign Policy • The main diplomatic relations with Israel supports Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, the U.S., Russia, Turkey and Italy. Azerbaijan participates in many international and regional international organizations: • UN; • OSCE; • CIS; • Non-Aligned Movement; • GUAM; • ECO; • The Black Sea Economic Cooperation; • Organization of the Islamic Conference; • Turkic Council. • NATO's Partnership for Peace program.

  13. Azerbaijani Armed Forces • Azerbaijan National Army (ANA) - the state military organization dedicated to the armed defense of freedom, independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. It consists of an army, air force, air defense forces and naval forces. • Day of the Azerbaijani army is June 26, 1918, however, the modern armed forces emerged during Karabakh war by combining local urban militias "self-defense forces." October 9, 1991 he issued a decree on the establishment of the army in three months, but actually the army was only established by the end of 1993. • Since the establishment of the Azerbaijani army is working closely with the armed forces of Turkey in the field of arms. The Khojaly genocide - one of the most heinous crimes of the twentieth century • As a result: • 613 people were killed, among them, •        children - 63, women - 106, the elderly - 70. • 8 families were completely destroyed • 25 children lost both parents, • 130 children lost one parent • Wounded - 487 people, including, children - 76; • People have visited the hostages - 1275 • Missing - 150 • On the night of February 25 to 26, 1992 Armenian armed forces with the support of heavy equipment and personnel of the 366th infantry regiment of the former USSR, stationed in Khankendi implemented the capture of Khojaly. • Assault of the city was preceded by a massive bombardment from artillery, military hardware, started on the evening of February 25. After that, despite the fact that the city was already in flames, armed groups with particular brutality implemented carnage over the peaceful population of the city.
