  1. NEW ULTRASONIC TIPS FOR ACCESS CAVITY REFINEMENT AND CANAL ORIFICE LOCATION

  2. ULTRASONIC ENDO TIPS – THE NEW RANGE • Start-X™, a range of 5 tips for access cavity refinement and canal openings location, dedicated to the General Dental Practitioner

  3. FEATURES AND BENEFITS Development in collaboration with Prof Berutti, Prof Cantatore and Dr Castellucci • support of 3 internationally renowned Opinion Leaders as well as of the Dentsply Maillefer OPL network • quality evidence thanks to their expertise

  4. FEATURES AND BENEFITS One Tip – One Clinical Indication • simplicity • new approach, at the opposite of what other manufacturers do (one tip has multiple possible applications), that enables the GDP, unfamiliar with ultrasonic inserts, to know exactly which tip to use in which situation Field of use = exclusively in the access cavity • no microscope needed = adapted to the GDP

  5. FEATURES AND BENEFITS Hard-tempered Stainless Steel • excellent resistance to fracture and wear • tips can vibrate in the air without breakage • according to our tests and those conducted by the 3 KOLs, these instruments can last for an average of 2 hours (when used in their dedicated clinical application). That corresponds to 2-3 months intensive use.

  6. FEATURES AND BENEFITS Micro Milled Active Part • smooth finish • minimized risk of potential diamond grit loss in the patient’s mouth • “easy” to clean • cutting efficiency similar or superior to diamond-coated instruments

  7. FEATURES AND BENEFITS ≈ 30%

  8. FEATURES AND BENEFITS Water port • cools down the insert and avoids overheating the treated tooth (particularly important when removing metal posts) • the intermittent use of irrigation enables the clinician to alternate between dry precision work and debris evacuation

  9. FEATURES AND BENEFITS Two threads – Satelec type (M3 x 0.6mm) and EMS type (M3 x 0.5mm) • compatible with most common ultrasonic generators (Satelec, EMS, NSK, etc). Mectron units only work with Mectron tips • no adapter needed (=> vibrations not affected) • Start-X™ type Satelec Start-X™ type EMS ring

  10. ULTRASONICS & ENDODONTICS APPLICATIONS & ADVANTAGES

  11. ULTRASONICS & ENDODONTICS Most frequent applications of ultrasonic in endodontics • Access refinement and canal location • Removal of intracanal obstructions (separated instruments, posts, etc) • Non-surgical retreatment (removal of GP, cement, etc) • Surgical endodontics • Increase action of irrigant solutions

  12. ULTRASONICS & ENDODONTICS Main reasons to use ultrasonics in endodontic applications “Improved visualization combined with a more conservative approach when selectively removing tooth structure, particularly in difficult situations in which a specific angulation or tip design permits access to restricted areas, offers opportunities that are not possible with conventional treatment” JOE – “Ultrasonics in Endodontics” Feb 2007 Compared to burs/rotating instruments: • better view of the operative field • greater cutting precision (better control of the amount of dentin removed)

  13. START-X™ TIPS APPLICATIONS

  14. START-X™ #1 – ACCESS CAVITY WALLS REFINEMENT • Non active tip → avoids accidentally damaging the pulp chamber floor • Active lateral part → eliminates interferences for a direct access into the canal

  15. START-X™ #1 – ACCESS CAVITY WALLS REFINEMENT Main advantages of the tip Compared to burs that are usually used for this application (ex: Endo-Z, conical diamond, etc), Start-X™ #1 has the following advantages: • less dentin removed • better visibility • less vibration

  16. START-X™ #2 – MB2 CANAL SCOUTER • Active tip → transports the orifice of the MB2 from its original location (underneath the mesial wall) to the floor of the pulp chamber • Active lateral part → eliminates interferences for a direct access into the canal

  17. START-X™ #2 – MB2 CANAL SCOUTER Main advantages of the tip Without this instrument, it can be often be difficult for the clinician to see the orifice. Even when it can be seen, the canal is often only negotiated for only 2-3 millimeters before the procedure is stopped, because the clinician thinks the canal is calcified. Start-X™ #2 = Straight line access to the canal

  18. START-X™ #3 – CANAL OPENINGS SCOUTER • Active tip → removes the obstructions that prevent a straight access to the canal (calcifications, filling materials, pulp stones)

  19. START-X™ #3 – CANAL OPENINGS SCOUTER Main advantages of the tip Even the smallest burs are too big and can remove too much tissues. Other ultrasonic tips are expensive, fragile and do not last as long (lost of diamond grits) Start-X™ #3 = • Very efficient • Precise • Safer (better visibility)

  20. START-X™ #4 – METAL POST REMOVAL • Specific design → suitable for working efficiently both on the top and on the sides of the metal post • Water port → avoids over heating

  21. START-X™ #4 – METAL POST REMOVAL Main advantages of the tip Apart from the TUFI tip, Start-X™ #4 is cheaper than competition (ProUltra #1, ETPR from Satelec, EN 1 from Amdent, ER 1 from Mectron, etc)

  22. START-X™ #5 – PULP CHAMBER FLOOR • Active tip → canal orifice location made easier thanks to the removal of calcifications and filling materials that hide the original floor anatomy • Thin & cylindrical → good visibility

  23. START-X™ #5 – PULP CHAMBER FLOOR Main advantages of the tip It is impossible to finish the pulp chamber floor using burs without damaging the original anatomy and creating perforations. Start-X™ #5 enables the clinician to discover the original anatomy of the floor (development lines help locate the root canal orifices) without alterations.

  24. START-X™ TIPS – OTHER UNOFFICIAL INDICATIONS Start-X™ #1 • Removal of temporary filling material Start-X™ #3 • Removal of fiber posts
