  2. Ivan I1328-1341 (Moneybags or Great Prince)

  3. Religion • Christian • Followed Roman Religion, and was also Orthodox Chistian.

  4. Important Events • In 1328, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church made Moscow, a big city of Russia, his residence and key ally.

  5. Ivan III1462-1505 Ivan the Great

  6. Government/Social Policy • He gained independence from the Mongol Tators ending their 200 year rule.

  7. Religion • Christian was the main religion of all the Russian rulers including Ivan III. • He followed Roman Culture and was Orthodox Christian.

  8. Economy/Trade • He traded mostly with surrounding city states such as the Nosgard Princedom • Also instead of trading Ivan III Mostly conquered lands and used the goods produced there.

  9. Technology/Warfare • He was able to strengthen the Kremlin Walls and added new towers and gates around Moscow. • Conquered multiple lands and was known as the most successful Russian Ruler.

  10. Ivan III’s important events • He had a stare- down of a battle across the Ugra River and formed the borders of Russia and freed them from the Mongols. • First czar in Russian history

  11. Legacies • Built off the Kremlin Walls, adding new buildings and making the walls more able to defend. • Code of law known as the Sudebnik

  12. Decline of Ivan III’s Rule • There was no direct decline. • He was known as Ivan the Great because his rule was successful. • It ended with his death in 1505.

  14. Ivan IV1533-1584 (Ivan the Terrible)

  15. Government/Social Policy • First Russian ruler to crown himself czar at age 16 in 1547. • He revised the code of law in Russia and established the ZemskySobor. • He also established the council of Nobles

  16. Religion • Just like other Kings, Ivan IV was Orthodox Christian.

  17. Economy/Trade • The main trade sold and bought during his reign was animal fur. This is what the economy mostly revolved around. • That was the biggest trade during his reign but like Ivan III he conquered many lands and used their goods.

  18. Technology/Warfare • He developed a dominating army capable of conquering any lands. • His armies crushed the Tatar knanates of Kazan and Astrakhan.

  19. Important Events • Assumed the throne at age three. • First self-proclaimed czar. • Violent outbursts caused his sons death.

  20. Legacies • Extremely harsh ruler. • Introduced self-government in rural regions. • Reformed largely with new codes of law. • Powerful army.

  21. Ivan IV’s Decline • Without explanation one day he turned on the Boyars accusing one of them of poisoning his wife • In 1581 in a rage he brutally murdered his son and heir • When he died he only had his youngest son to succeed him in 1584
