  2. History • Kuwait was founded in 1705. • After World War I, the Ottoman Empire was defeated and the British invalidated the Anglo-Ottoman Convention, declaring Kuwait to be an independent sheikhdom under British protectorate. • On 19 June 1961, Kuwait became fully independent following an exchange of notes with the United Kingdom.

  3. Industry • The Kuwait industry is dominated by oil refineries. • Kuwait produces 828,000 barrels of fuel every day. • They also produce some ammonia, fertilizer, paper products, processed foods, and other consumer goods.

  4. Geography • Kuwait is a small desert plain like coastal country. • The highest point in Kuwait is 1,004 feet above sea level but doesn’t have a name. • Kuwait includes nine Islands. • It borders the Persian Gulf on one side.

  5. Religion • 85%-Muslim • 4%- Christian • 0%- Judaism

  6. Climate • Kuwait is a hot, dry desert country. • The seasons are the same as European patterns just a bit hotter and dryer. • Summer nights are hot, winter nights are cool, and so on.

  7. Imports • Mainly food, production materials, vehicles and parts, and clothing. • They also import liquefied natural gas even though they are one of the largest crude oil producing countries in the world.

  9. Sports • The largest sport in Kuwait is football (soccer), then its Basketball (Kuwaiti Basketball Association), handball, cricket and rugby.

Government • The government of Kuwait consists of a parliamentary constitutional monarchy, where the Emir is the head of government. • His powers include appointing the prime minister, dissolving parliament, promulgating laws, referring bills back to the parliament for reconsideration, and appointing military officers
