  4. An overview • Opium use has a long history in Iran. For treatment, Antidote or abuse.

  5. Overview of use • Opium(various forms), heroin, concentrated (in Iran called crack!), Methamphetamine(called Shishe), various kind of THC( called hashish in extract form),Alcohol… are found in Iran. • The percentage of use is based on the age, accessibility, cost, socioeconomic status of user and the place of use. • For example Ritalin is common between university student or MDMA use in rave parties.

  6. Legal treatments • The main decision-maker is government by Iran Drug Control Headquarters. And then this decision referred to other governmental or nongovernmental organization. • They work on all field of drug use control; from struggle with smugglers to rehabilitation centers for addicts • So the treatments is also under governmental supervision.

  7. Licensed clinics • There is two organization that allow running a treatment clinic: 1- ministry of health 2- state welfare organization of Iran

  9. Common Treatments for opioid addiction • There is “ outpatient addiction treatment centers”. License issued by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare • Private • state • Both of them under supervision of government. and they have Quota of Methadone, buprenorphine and opium tincture . • For maintenance therapy and detoxification either

Opioids treatment centers • The usage of this drugs Carefully evaluated and monitored by inspection teams. • Also the must have a therapy team include: • A trained physician • A trained psychologist • A trained nurse • A trained social worker • For psychiatric problem, a part time psychiatrist

  12. Treatment protocol • We have a “treatment protocol” sent from ministry of health and following this protocol in some part of treatment is mandatory. For example in : • Minimum patient visits in a month by each member of team • Minimum and maximum administered by physician • How to write and records the patients documents
