Major Projects of the GIS Section Compilation of Manitoba geology at 1:250,000 and 1:1,000,000 are proceeding. The new project to revise the Geological Highway map of Manitoba is advancing. Compilation of existing 1:50,000 mapping in the Lynn Lake belt will produce colour geology maps. The Cartographic Unit is devoting substantial resources supporting surficial geology mapping and compilation. Ongoing expansion of the Mineral Occurrence Database. General cartographic support for the Geological Survey.
MAP GALLERY • Since being released in the fall of 2012 the new version of Map Gallery has required continuous maintenance of the datasets. • During the coming year there will be a major upgrade to the Map Gallery software that will resolve many of the problems such as poor print performance that users have identified. • Addition of new and expanded datasets will continue.
GeoCapture Geology and Geochemistry database
Designed to collect DDH and surface station data either in the field or from existing records Access Database
HOW - collection and import of lithology along DDHs and at surface stations, in addition to geochemistry sample analyses
GOALS • Create an unique lithology and geochemistry database • Export detailed lithological and geochemistry data for 2-D and 3-D modelling • GeoCapture available for public download this year 3-D model of part of the SubPhanerozoic (Fenton mine) using ArcGIS-Target
Manitoba Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) Update
What is an SDI? • The technologies, policies and people necessary to enable the use of spatially referenced data through all levels of government, stakeholders and the public. SDI Vision: Manitoba’s source for authoritative geospatial data.
Current SDI work - Subject Matter Expert (SME) training - Writing and testing scripts to move data • SDI Administration • Data viewer testing and implementation • Server and Citrix testing
3D Geological Mapping in Manitoba 55° Border
Modelling – Data Import 134 Sections
Next steps/Current work • There is still a lot of work to do… • Cross-section manipulation • Unit edge modifications • Determine processes for modelling • buried valley aquifers • Surface water modelling
