  2. Terms to Know • Gentry: The highest social class in the colonies. Examples rich Merchant and Businessman. • Social Mobility: the possibility for a person to move from one social class to another. • Great Awakening: Period of time in the 1700’s when people became interested in getting wealth.

  3. Revival: Renew interest in religion which led to fiery sermons warning people of the danger of God’s anger. • Enlightenment: A period which focus on science and reason. It is sometimes called “The Age of Reasoning”.

  4. Moving Towards Independence Leaders Emerge • Second Continental Congress • Members included Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Roger Sherman, Ben Franklin and Robert Livingston. • Delegates: John and Samuel Adams, Patrick Henry, Richard Henry Lee, and George Washington. John Hancock
