GINA role in support of IARC-JAXA Arctic Research The Geographic Information Network of Alaska (GINA) will support and supply data to all research groups performing the IARC-JAXA Arctic Research. ………………… GINA will provide IARC-JAXA researchers with • near-realtime and archive access to satellite data. • data processing and management environments. • a web-based presentation layer for their results.

SuomiNPP Data Reception GINA will be receiving an upgrade to the X-band antenna located on the roof of IARC in April 2012 to allow us to receive and distribute NOAA-NASASuomi NPP satellite data, which carries the VIIRS sensor, the next generation of the operational sensor that will continue the legacy of the MODIS and AVHRR sensors. Backup slide (details):GINA Data Processing & Distribution Capabilities Listing Satellite data processing and distribution capabilities: • level 0 archiving • level 1 processing and near-realtime operational distribution to users such as the National Park Service, Alaska Volcano Observatory, and NOAA Weather Service • level 2 and 3 data product generation • distribution through OGC services such as WMS, web map applications, and tile interfaces such as Google Earth KML. • Storage and data hosting environment • Develop custom web mapping application interfaces and service end points for satellite and derived products (within limits of funding). • private data storage and management and processing areas for intermediate research product development between research groups • public web hosting, applications, and web services for final products GINA has a virtual machine hosting environment that provides a flexible processing environments for custom data product generation. GINA can also support IARC-JAXA researchers in utilizing the UAF ARSC PACMAN high­performancecomputing cluster to perform large scale satellite data analysis.
