RCARO 2004 Activities (I)- A year of Stepping Stone – □ More Enhanced Awareness Increasing Activities - Operation of RCARO Homepage and E-mailing Information Service (1.800 → 2,500) - Network Link with International Development Organizations (At present: 58 Organizations Linked) - Publication: Brochures (2 kinds each 1,000 copies) - Presentations: Total 45 Events both Local and Abroad - Media Relations: Press Releases and Press Interviews

RCARO 2004 Activities (II)- A year of Stepping Stone - □ Ground-breaking for Promoting RCA Partnerships - Construction of Database of Regional/International Development Organizations, Financial Agencies, National Funding Agencies to understand their activities - Initial meetings with UNESCAP, ADB (CAI-Asia), IMO/GEF (PEMSEA) for developing future co-operative projects

RCARO Initiated Projects - Post-doctoral Fellowship Programme: 6 Fellows (INS: 3, VIE: 3) - KAIST MS Degree Course: 8 Students * 2004 Spring Semester: 4 (BGD: 1, INS: 1, PAK: 2) * 2004 Fall Semester: 4 (MYA: 2, BGD: 1, PAK: 1) - Nuclear Medicine Internship Training Course: 16 Participants from BGD, CPR, IND, INS, MAL, MYA, PAK, PHI, SRL and VIE

Cont.)- A year of Stepping Stone - 2.1st RCA Working Staff Workshop (June 2004 in Korea) - 14 Member States, 4 Invited Lecturers - Recommendations reported to 33rd RCA GCM 3. Established RCA Logo Guidelines 4. Computer Support Programme: For 4 Member States 5. Transfer of Co-60 Radiotherapy Unit to VIE and training of operators and technicians 6. Invited Temp Staff from Member States: (INS: 1, SRL: 1) each 4 months 7. External Expert Consultation: 2 Experts for Database construction

Plans for Partnerships • UNESCAP - Identification of mutual interest and cooperative areas - MOU among ESCAP-RCA-RCARO for Implementation of Co-operative Projects • IMO/GEF - RCA Session at 2006 PEMSEA Conference • UNDP (Korea) - Develop a matching project for 2006-08 • KOICA - Nuclear medicine internship training programme • Others - Participation in ADB’s environmental progamme - UNU Radiation Applications Programme

RCARO Initiated Projects • 2005 Post-doc Fellowship Training Programme - 8 fellows admitted for attachment at KAERI, KIRAMS • 2005 KAIST Nuclear Engineering Master’s Degree Course - 3 students admitted (PHI, MYA and SRL) • Computer Support Programme - 4 MSs (Dual purpose to earmark for ENO activity) planned • Transfer of Cancer Treatment Equipment to MSs - Co-60 Radiotherapy Unit to Viet Nam in 2005

Operational Aspects • Operation of RCARO Standing Advisory Committee • Development of RCARO Vision (RCARO Strategic Workshop planned in 2005) - To identify mid-term RCARO programme - To develop fund creating strategies for RCA - To review optimum legal framework of RCARO • Facilitation of Guidelines on RCARO Initiated Projects • Inviting Temp Staff from Member States - 1 from CPR for 1 year - 1 or 2 from MS(s) for 4 months • Support RCA Project (s) that need fund - IAEA is developing appropriate method and procedure
