PROJECTS PROPOSALS - topics SURFACE GRAFTING OF FLUORINATED/SILOXANE ACRYLATES (SILANES) TO CONFER OLEO/HYDRO REPELLENCY TO TEXTILE SUBSTRATES • Finishing of several textile substrates, both natural (cotton, silk, wool…) and synthetic (polyester or polyamide) by: • PHOTO-INDUCED PROCESS • The finishing agent is strongly grafted to fibers by means of ultraviolet rays, in presence of a suitable photoinitiator.

FILTERING MATERIALS FOR WATER TREATMENTS • Production of new filtering substrates for removal of pollutants from water. • Textile substrates or other suitable filtering materials will be functionalized to confer the desired properties, by means of: • UV-grafting of CHITOSAN coating • UV-grafting of ANTIFOULING additives • Goals: • Removal of dyes (mainly for dyers wastewaters) • Removal of heavy metals • Water disinfection by removal of pathogen microorganisms

PROJECTS PROPOSALS – work to do The research work develops in several steps: Bibliographical research on the “state of the art” of the selected topic Preparation of samples varying the main process parameters, to assess the optimal process conditions (CHEMICAL LAB!!!) Evaluation of the desired properties conferred to the samples (contact angles measurements with oils and water, antibacterial tests, filtering tests carried out both in batch and in continuous assessment) Deep characterization of the samples by means of chemical, morphological, physical and mechanical tests. (e.g. FTIR-ATR, SEM, DSC, TGA, DMTA, but also evaluation of the treatment fastness to laundering, perspiration, rubbing according ASTM) Semi-industrial scale-up (if possible) REQUIRED TIME: NOT LESS THAN 6 MONTHS!!!
