Why can’t KMVB hold its assessments on a different date? KMVB holds their assessments on the first available dates permitted by North Country Region and the Minnesota High School League. This year those dates are October 28th for 11’s – 14’s and November 11th for 15’s – 18’s. Our tryout dates were set and handed out the first week in August at the Fall HS sports sign up. We have no control over other clubs choosing to run their tryouts on these same dates.
What measures will be used to determine which team my child makes? Basic skills testing in team drill situation • Passing, serving, setting, hitting, defense, blocking Team Play • 4-on-4 & 6-on-6 • Court movement • Communication • Attitude • Overall game performance
How often and when do the teams practice? • 3 x’s every 2 weeks • Dates and times determined 1 month in advance • Arrangements made between KM School District and KMVB Can I be a multi-sport HS athlete and still play for KMVB? • Yes – it’s encouraged • High School sport comes first • Develops good time management skills • Remember your commitment to the JO team by being accountable
Does KMVB Conflict with other Sports/Activities? Communication is the key! • Make sure your school coach knows you are participating in KMVB • Please give your JO coach a list of known & possible conflicts AT THE ALL CLUB MEETING. • Be specific, listing dates of conflicts. DO NOT HAND THEM YOUR High School SCHEDULE.
How will I get schedules, directions to tournaments, etc? Team Rep communication and visit www.KMVB.org • Tournament Schedules • Team announcements • Practice Schedules • Directions to tournament sites • Photos • KMVB store Please contact LauraB@kmvb.org with website questions
I know a player who wants to try out, but cannot afford it. What can she do? We do our best to work with all players and situations. • Parent and Player should contact the Club Directors • Additional Fund Raising is possible for teams/players to reduce costs
I have a conflict during the tryout dates, will this hurt my chances of making a team? • KMVB will be selecting it’s teams on Oct. 28th and Nov. 11th. All players selected will be required to sign the USAV Binding Commitment Letter so we will know the status of each of our teams by the end of tryouts. At that time we may or may not have space available on a team. If space is available in the club we will be happy to schedule you for a tryout.
What is the difference between a playday and a tournament? Playday • Pool Play only • Most pools will consist of 4 teams, but may contain as many as 7. • During playdays, teams will usually play 3-5 other teams. • Usually play all three sets. 25-25-15 • ½ day event Tournaments • Pool play followed by tournament play • All day event or multi-day events
Will my daughter play the same position as she did in high school? Position experience is always taken into consideration, but ultimately it is up to the coach • The needs of the team come first • Multiple positions played allows for a broader knowledge and perspective of the game
Being our first year. . .How often will the tournaments be? • Each team will play approximately 7 to 9 events from Jan 1 – May 1 • Events are usually twice a month on the average • Scheduled Sat OR Sun (usually Sundays for the 12U to allow for multi-sport athletes) • Most of the events begin at 8am and are completed by 4:30pm, but may be done as early as 1:30.
