  3. 1944 • After d-day Germany was being squeezed by the Russians in the east and the British and Americans in the west • Bombing industrial and civilian sites • Using RADAR to protect shipping • Helping and arming resistance movements in German occupied territories • Allies still made military errors - Arnhem

  4. The end • German assassination attempt on Hitler – failed – he got rid of all possible opponents • Germans had no choice but to fight on • Late 1944 – Battle of the Bulge – German counter attack – successful at first but failed • By April the Russians were closing in on Berlin • Hitler committed suicide and Germany surrendered
