  12. FRENCH IT IS… • Ho bargains with the French • Agreement March 6 1946 • Ho’s state ‘free’ within French Union of Indochinese States • Cochinchina separate but Ho claims Cochinchina as “the flesh of our flesh, the blood of our blood” • 25000 French troops in Vietnam for next five years

  13. MORE BARGAINING “I’ve signed my death warrant” • Fontainebleau Agreement • DRV could run own economy • Cochinchina issue resolved • No real change SO WHAT NEXT??
