  1. DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) Jason Harvey 5-7-2014 Hour: 4 Career Technology/ Foundations

  2. Introduction • “Bigthinking precedes great achievement.”- Wilferd A. Paterson. • I do not like the impact that drugs have had on people that I know and people I have just seen or heard about. The drugs can mess up your whole life or kill you just from trying it one time. If I can keep the drugs away from someone, that'll help them stay clean, and could save someone's life. • In order to get a better understanding of my chosen career field as a DEA Agent, I will be researching (nature of work, working conditions, training, joboutlook, earnings, and a back up career)

  3. Nature of Work (Responsibilities) • Investigate crimes • Collect and secure evidence from crime scenes • Conduct interviews with suspects and witnesses • Obtain warrants and arrest suspects • Prepare cases and testify in court

Working Condition • Physical: needs patience, courageous, and physically fit • Outdoors: in the field making arrests • Indoors: testifying in court, doing paperwork • Hours: can constantly be called in, usually 8 hour shifts • Conditions: Stressful, Potential of bodily harm, physically demanding

  6. Job Outlook • Employment rate: 5% rising from 2012-2022 • Where I want to find this opening: Detroit , MI • Competitive?: The better degree, the higher position • Destination: Somewhere along the Mexican boarder or Detroit Michigan

  7. Earnings • Median Earnings: (depends on the department) $56,980 per year $27.40 per hour • Life Goal #1: Sky Diving, costs $249.99 (+) • Life Goal #2: Own a cottage on a lake, costs $34,900 (+) • Life Goal #3: Go to the super bowl, costs $1,767(+)

  8. Back up career- lawyer • Responsibility- Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for individuals and businesses • Degree- have a law degree and pass state BAR exam • Outlook- 10% rise, any court with defendants and prosecutors needs a lawyers • Median earnings- $113,530 per year $54.58 per hour

  9. Conclusion After researching this field, I would still like to be a DEA agent. One thing I really am looking forward to is getting the drugs off the streets. The one thing I am not going to enjoy that much is testifying in court with the lawyers questioning me. Over all I have learned that I need to get a good education and be dedicated to get in that field. I have also learned that a back up plan is always good to have.
