  2. Types of printers • Impact • Oldest printing technologies still in active production. Physically strikes ink to paper to print. • Non-Impact • Creates text without physically touching the paper.

Impact Printers • Dot-Matrix printers - paper is pulled forward while printing, print head moves across the paper and imprints ink on the paper. • Daisy-Wheel printers – works the same as a typewriter, petals are pressed to the paper. • Line printers – almost the same as daisy-wheel but can print multiple words simultaneously

  4. Non-Impact Printers • Thermal printer – no ink, heated elements placed against paper to darken special heat sensitive paper. • Laser printer – no ink, lasers and dry powdered ink to render images. • Ink Jet printer – electrically charged or heated ink is spewed onto the paper.
