  1. Love has no boundaries 4 Mt 5: 43-38

  2. 43 ‘You have heard that it was said, “Love your neighbour and hate your enemy.” 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

  3. “Any of us can love those who already love us. The followers of Jesus are called to the harder task of loving those for whom it is hard to feel anything positive.”

  4. Love has compassion and moves towards the other • Love prays and acts • Love welcomes and accepts

  5. Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

  6. Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

  7. Perfect = Gk ‘telios’ “Be a fully mature human being… “

  8. Heb 5 11 About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, 13 for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. 14 But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

  9. Eph 4: 11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.

  10. Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

  11. A movement from self-centred to other centred • A movement from being right to being connected

  12. Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

  13. James 1: 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

  14. Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. • You will be • You be
