Objectives CHETL Learners will: • Explore Ways to Integrate Kentucky Core Academic Standards (KCAS) for English Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies instruction. • Explore Characteristics of Highly Effective Teaching and Learning in the Social Studies Classroom. • Promote Instructional Relevance: a teacher’s ability to facilitate learning experiences that are meaningful to students and prepare them for their futures.

  4. The Big Ideas “Surprisingly enough, big ideas are typically not found even in textbook guides or as part of state and local standards and benchmarks. Big ideas are more generative or transformative than other aspects of a topic, and they provide the basis for worthwhile lessons and learning activities.” Janet Alleman, Barbara Knighton, and JereBrophy, p25.
