  1. Hypertension Treatment by Eastern Acupuncture Treatment Acupuncture and Blood Pressure Regulation Acupuncture can control blood pressure in the body by utilizing a sophisticated process often termed as neuroendocrine system. It consists of the endocrine system which generally involves hypothalamus, adrenals/thyroid, and pituitary glands as well as the complex functional relationship with the neurological system. The endocrine system maintains human body hormones as well as metabolic functions. The autonomic neurological system (ANS) is grouped into two, a sympathetic part – ( fight or flight ), which assists in controlling blood volume and vascular tone including a parasympathetic sector – (rest and digest) and this handles body system functions such as inhalation and blood pressure. The central neurological system (CNS) is a 2-way communication system involving the spinal cord and brain and it’s responsible for the processing of external stimuli and all information from all parts of the body. All information generated by the neurological system is conveyed by the spinal cord to the human brain, also, the brain transmits signals to the body via the same process. When it comes to research, there exists a continuous gathering of facts on how acupuncture can regulate the endocrine system, and also maintain hormone level balance. Several latest studies have proved the benefits of acupuncture on the

  2. autonomic nervous system on health conditions including insomnia, cardiovascular disease, epilepsy, anxiety, etc. As a result of the breakthroughs in imaging technologies, there has been a rise in Neuroimaging on the benefits of acupuncture on the brain during the past years. It has been discovered through one of the research that electro-acupuncture was utilized to stimulate certain sections of the brain revealing the effect of low blood pressure through the central neurological system. New findings showed that overactive sympathetic nervous system is one of the primary factors to high blood pressure. Whenever the sympathetic nervous system gets over- stimulated, it might lead to vasoconstriction of heart arteries and thus triggering hypertensive condition. Recent researches have shown that acupuncture reduces blood pressure level by reduced regulation of the sympathetic nervous system. It was also discovered that electroacupuncture stimulates the brain neurons which suppresses the actions of (SNS) by enhancing the opioid system- “encephalin and endorphins” and also Nociception. The bar reflex control system is being regulated by Endogenous opioids, this being a feedback loop between the spinal cord (PNS), brain (SNS) and the heart (CNS). As the (PNS) is actuated in the feedback loop, it reduces sympathetic nerve actions, thereby reducing the blood pressure level. Eastern Medicine Treatment: Eastern medicine is an evolving technique of treatment involving varied forms and different treatment options available to the practitioner, Therefore, the procedures for a cure of blood pressure will likely differ from one practitioner to other practitioners subject to how the disease is presented, and the preference in addition to the practitioner’s standpoint. Usually, natural medicine comes first in most treatment options while acupuncture is used as the auxiliary. The reason is that natural herbs work at a much deeper rate and the patient can continue treatment at home whereas acupuncture only works at surface level. Combining these two, practitioners are able to come up with very effective and unified treatment plan for the treatment of disease.
