By: IVC JUSTICE 1 HEMORRHAGING OR INTERNAL BLEEDING An IVC Filter Injury may cause a hemorrhage if the filter fractures or perforates vital organs in the body. Hemorrhage occurs when blood escapes from a ruptured blood vessel. while internal bleeding is the loss of blood that occurs from the vascular system into a body cavity or space. 2 HEART RHYTHM PROBLEMS Arrhythmias is when heart rhythm problems occur. They may be caused from an IVC Filter injury. These symptoms occur when the heart isn't beating regularly or may not be pumping blood as well as normal. Some of these symptoms include lightheadedness, palpitations, shortness of breath, and fainting. 3 NECK AND CHEST PAIN Are you having neck and chest pain? An IVC Filter injury may have occurred. 5 SHORTNESS OF BREATH Shortness of breath, also called dyspnea, is the unpleasant sensation of having difficulty breathing. With dyspnea, faster breathing is accompanied by the sensation of running out of air. People feel as if they cannot breathe fast enough or deeply enough. 6 HYPOTENSION Hypotension is known as abnormally low blood pressure. It can cause symptoms of dizziness and fainting, and in severe cases could be life threatening. 7 NAUSEA Nausea is an uncomfortable feeling in the stomach that may cause the urge to vomit involuntarily. In some severe cases, injuries can lead to: 8 PULMONARY EMBOLISM, STROKE, AND DEATH Pulmonary embolisms may be caused by an IVC Filter Injury. If the filter fractures, it may travel to your heart and lungs and perforate these organs. If this were to happen, it could block the pulmonary arteries in your lungs. This can be deadly. A stroke occurs when blood flow to an area in the brain is cut off. The brain cells are deprived of oxygen and other components needed to survive. If a stroke is not caught early enough, it could lead to permanent brain damage or death.
