  2. Sponges are animals and belong to the Animal Kingdom. Characteristics: • 1. Multicellular • 2. No organs or body systems • 3 . Cellular digestion – no mouth, no stomach, no anus (heterotrophic) • 4. Asymmetry

  3. Sponges are SESSILE – they do not move They obtain food by FILTER FEEDING

  4. They reproduce sexually (with sperm and eggs) in the water (external fertilization) They can also reproduce asexually (regeneration)

  5. Collar Cells – flagellated cells in the sponge that move water, food, and nutrients and take away waste.
