Medical Interagency Satellite Training
The Basics of MIST • What: • Public Law 107-314 of the FY03 Defense Authorization Act Directed the DOD and VA to implement a Heath Care Incentive Fund • The VA (as Lead Agent) has proposed a joint agency, satellite based, educational channel using current medical content from the CDC, VA, DOD Services, and other providers • Satellite-based medical channel for DOD provides professional education & training –intending to offer six to eight hours a day, live & prerecorded
The Basics of MIST • Why • Increasing need to share medical information and training—rapidly and universally—using existing infrastructures • Permits exchange of medical training and information • CME/CEU credits for selected programs • Offers access to very large segment of DOD population thanks to GETN • Cost-effective—centrally funded, no local costs • Allows for rapid, cost-effective deployment of additional infrastructure where needed • When & Where: • Programs are listed in catalog under “MIST” and also on the daily schedule
A Sampling of MIST Courses • ADPH - Alabama Department of Public Health • SUNY - State University of New York • CDC - Centers for Disease Control
What we’d like you to do • If you have other sources, let us know • If you see a program in the “Available” list and would like to see it, let us know • Suggest more broadcast times more convenient to you • There are opportunities to produce content • 8 Broadcast centers; Fairchild, Lackland, Peterson, Wright-Patt, Keesler, Maxwell, Robins, Dobbins, Ft Sam Houston
