Learning curve • Candidates generally coped well with new format • Most coped well with the amount they had to write. • Fewer rubric errors than old paper • Space for writing to be increased. • Most were able to tackle the paper
General observations • Fewer rubric errors • Some candidates attempting answers for which they had not been prepared. • Better at time planning • Misreading of questions apparent • Misunderstanding of ‘how’ and ‘why’
Weakness in AO1 • Some lack of confidence with technical terms: research methods and cohabitation especially. • Knowing term and then misusing it later: socialisation
Improving performance • Learn and understand key terms – these are the focus of questions • Read the questions carefully, noting commands and debates. • Use examples and development • Plan answers following clear and logical order • Avoid ‘stream of consciousness’ and personal comment.
