Sessions Include • Sessions- combination of whole group and small group discussion, and individual reflection exercises. • Program faculty will be a combination of district, state, national leaders who are successful practitioners. • There will be pre-reading assignments for each session, as well as individual and homework projects to complete in-between sessions.

Session Topics Aligned to McREL 7 Leadership Standards & 21 Competencies • Session 1 – Strategic Leadership • Session 2 – Instructional Leadership • Session 3 – Cultural Leadership • Session 4 – Human Resources Leadership • Session 5 – Managerial Leadership • Session 6 –External Development Leadership & Micro-political Leadership

  6. On-the-Job Experiences • Assigned to a mentor principal-The mentor principal will supervise on the job experience. Work in mentors school 3-4 times • Each month’s experience will be planned in advance, and a Review and Reflection report will be submitted to the Academy program coordinators

  7. Leadership Story Leaders must be able to tell their story in a succinct and compelling fashion to a variety of audiences. Your story will help followers understand who you are, why you are here, and why they should follow you.

  9. Entry Plan • Choose a study school • Develop an organizational tool to address goals, stakeholders, and actions • Create your own actions/interactions; include all stakeholders, teachers, parents, community, district, city, county. • 30/60/90 day plan

  10. Coaching/Mentoring • Anticipate problem areas • Think through difficult issues and decisions • Plan the implementation of new ideas and initiatives • Reflect on their skills, behaviors and actions as a principal • Develop strategies for keeping a career/work balance • Identify potential resources

  11. Individual Professional Improvement Credits • From 1 to 3 IPIP in-service credits will be available for time spent on specific WASL activities conducted outside of the contract day.   • Examples include:  time spent in collaboration with fellow participants and/or facilitators and mentors while working on small group projects, engaging in professional learning activities, discussions and meetings.

  12. Criteria • Completed or enrolled in Administrative Licensure program • Assistant principals • Deans • Full-time teacher leaders • District leaders seeking building level leadership. • Full time classroom teachers are not eligible to apply.

  13. Application Process • District website-staff- department of professional learning- leadership development-WASL • Applications are due on or before June 7th at 5pm • Submit all completed materials to SchoolLeadership@washoeschools.net
