  2. What is Inspire? Inspire is a tax-exempt volunteer organization thatprovides consulting services to non-profits focused on education and youth development Our mission: We work to build a better world by helping nonprofit organizations achieve breakthrough results. We bring strategic thinking and results-oriented analysis to the leaders of organizations dedicated to the education, development, and well-being of school-aged children. In serving our clients, we create meaningful professional development opportunities for our volunteers, and provide our partner firms a vehicle for positive community engagement

  3. Who works for Inspire? Inspire members are pre-MBA volunteers from industry leading management consulting firms. Inspire currently has 376 volunteers and hundreds more alumni, spreading across 17 offices in 8 cities nationwide. New in IYE 2013 L.E.K. SF Chicago (Bain, L.E.K.)   4. Who runs Inspire? Host firms • Inspire is a consortium of volunteers from the following consulting firms • While Inspire volunteers utilize the skills developed at their host firms, Inspire is a completely independent organization. A case with Inspire is not a case with any of the Inspire partner firms. Volunteer Consultants • Volunteer consultants hail from four firms in 8 cities. Consultants volunteer to work on Inspire cases for 2-5 hours/week in addition to their full-time employment Governance • Inspire is run by an Executive Committee that oversees all projects and operations • Inspire also has a Board of Directors which advises the Executive Committee and volunteers • The Board is made up of Partners from Host Firms and former Inspire Executive Directors

  6. What types of organizations does Inspire work with? Local • Inspire works with non-profit organizations that serve the 8 cities covered by volunteers, including: Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco • Inspire targets youth development organizations that provide opportunities for children who are underserved and do not have sufficient access to opportunities for educational and social enrichment Youth-Focused Change-oriented • Inspire targets organizations that are innovative and change-oriented in their approach to serving youth • Inspire clients are active partners and want to work with us to find solutions Example Clients

  7. What types of cases does Inspire do? Growth & Expansion strategy Advising on the best growth plan for a charter school network Organizational Effectiveness Restructuring roles and responsibilities, aligning with the Executive Board Marketing & Publicity Revamping the mission, and the communication strategy to align that mission with staff, the Board, and funders New Program Development Using expertise to develop new educational and sports programs during the summertime Financial Planning & Modeling Reorganizing finances and spending focus to best support organizational goals Revenue Enhancement Survey of funders and grant makers to ensure organizations are aligned and NGO can prove impact

  8. What is the process for starting an Inspire case? Clients approach Inspire with idea for a project in an area they need help with (e.g. growth, marketing, organizational effectiveness) Introduction Project Planning Client and local office leadership will work together to create a project proposal and timeline Staffing Local office leadership staffs the case with Inspire volunteers in their office Kickoff Contract is signed and a kick off meeting is schedule for team and client to meet Invoice Inspire sends invoice to client

  9. Case Study:KIPP Foundation KIPP, one of the largest public charter school networks in the U.S. Client Situation KIPP came to Inspire asking for fundraising guidance. Most of their funds came from a few large gifts, and while they were well-funded in the near-term, they wanted to diversify their funding to avoid being reliant on a few large donors. KIPP partnered with Inspire to identify ways to target a broader set of donors to increase donor diversity. The large case scope required a big team - two Bain San Francisco consultants led an eight-member team Team Casework • The team cracked the case in four major steps: • -Benchmark best practices of similar non-profits through research and interviews • -Brainstorm and develop KIPP fundraising communications; test ideas through focus groups • Discussed ideas and test results with KIPP, incorporated KIPP input • -Finalize the right communication and methods to reach potential donors • -Add KIPP-specific data and general education data to communications • Share and discuss the communication strategy and project conclusions with KIPP Results KIPP raved about the work and has already integrated Inspire’s suggestions into their most recent fundraising appeal! Timeline ~4 months, with 3 major presentations and updates

  10. FAQ Q: How long is a typical Inspire case? A: Inspire Cases typically last for ~3-4 months Q: Do I have to pay for an Inspire team? How much? A: Case fees are $200/month to cover organizational expenses. Fees are invoiced at the end of each case Q: How is the scope of each case determined? A: Prospective clients work with our client development heads to decide on the right focus and expected outcome of each case Q: How are Inspire teams structured? A: Team structures vary by client and project scope, but typically teams include 3+ consultants and are run by 1-2 case team leaders Have other questions about working with us?
