Reaction Chemistry • 2HCl+CaCO3  HCO3- + H+ +CaCl2 • HCO3- + H+ +CaCl2  CO2+H2O+CaCl2 • Theoretical Predictions • Used 42.0mL HCl (excess reagent) and 22.0g CaCo3 • (22.0g CaCO3/1) x (1mol CaCO3/100.1g CaCo3) x (1mol CO2/1mol CaCO3)x (22.4L/1mol CO2)= 4.9L CO2 • P= ((.2178moles CO2)(.08205atmL/molK)(293K))/(1.2L)= 4.4atm

Conclusions/Redesign Ideas • Our car’s design was very hard to have any sort of consistency with due to the added failure points. • Although we only had one truly good run (-3in.) we believe our car had the potential to consistently reach this distance if we had fewer design flaws. • Improvements (given more time and better materials) would include • Heavier duty seals/sealant • More consistent nozzle • Lighter chassis • Better delivery method for Calcium Carbonate • No Kimwipes in delivery method • Overall we were satisfied with our one good run although we would have liked to have had more consistency.
