FEWC Overview • Formed in 2006 to develop solutions to meet the current and future work force needs of the state’s energy industry. • To ensure that solutions are developed in a sustainable and well-coordinated fashion, have five committees: • Career Awareness • Funding & Resources • Policy & Education • Untapped Labor Sources • State and National Outreach

Career Awareness 2009 Key Accomplishments • Get Into Energy Florida Student Branding Judging & Award Announcement • Get Into Energy Florida Marketing Kit (FEWC Logo Tablecloth & pens/highlighters) • Florida SkillsUSA outreach (FEWC table - brochure/utility territory map & giveaways) • Florida Science Fair recognition (letter, certificate, and USB with career info) • Transition of FEWC.org and GetIntoEnergyFLorida.com websites to new hosting platforms • Career Awareness updates to FEWC website • National State Consortia participation • CEWD Regional and National Summit participation

  5. Career Awareness 2010 Proposed Career Awareness Goals: • Increase collaboration with local, regional and national partnerships (ex. STEMflorida and CEWD) on Career Awareness efforts for Energy Industry • Increase Energy Career Awareness communication with Florida’s education system • Increase student engagement in activities promoting Energy Careers

Career Awareness 2010 Career Awareness Action Plan: • Partner with STEMflorida on career awareness efforts • Partner with STEMflorida on student internship/teacher externship efforts • Partner with CEWD on Career Pathways implementation • Present at various Industry and Educational events (in partnership with Policy and Education Committee) • Develop FEWC template presentation for statewide messaging • Develop e-mail blasts (newsletter style) for science/math teachers to explore Energy websites with their students during class time

Career Awareness 2010 Career Awareness Action Plan: • Recognize energy related projects at State Science Fair–letter/certificate & USB with Get Into Energy Florida information • Represent FEWC at SkillsUSA state competition • Recognize energy related projects at State Skills USA competition–letter/certificate & USB with Get Into Energy Florida information • Support FEWC selected webmaster to update Get Into Energy Florida website (update content, logo links to apply pages on individual company careers pages, Post Are You Ready to GIEF website, videos.

Career Awareness 2010 Action Plan: • Obtain FEWC marketing USBs for State Science Fair & SkillsUSA Energy project recognition • Design Get Into Energy Florida Banner Stand graphic & purchase for FEWC marketing kit • Finalize, print and deliver poster(s) ’10 winning student design from Niceville High School • Design and purchase GIEF Wallet Cards to drive interest to the website • Design, price and purchase GIEF polo shirts for dues paying members and community representatives on behalf of FEWC(available for purchase by all FEWC membership)

  9. Career Awareness 2010 Action Plan: • Partner with Policy and Education Council for teacher/student resources & educational events • Career Awareness communication via FEWC website • Get Into Energy Florida student engagement activity/competition – planned for Fall 2010

Policy and Education2009 Key Accomplishments • Gained approval for the addition of an Energy Industry Cluster to those recognized by the FLDOE. • Developed energy curriculum frameworks for five (5) courses: Energy Foundations, Introduction to Alternative Energy, Power Generation Technician, Power Distribution Technician and Solar Energy Technician. • Recognized students who received awards for Energy-related Science Fair projects.

Policy and Education2010 Action Plan • Partner with CEWD to develop materials for the energy courses. • Make presentation to MEA regarding FEWC’s structure and accomplishments • Add teacher “toolkit” to Get Into Energy Florida web site • Complete and publish compilation of readily available resources for K-12 teachers to use to integrate energy concepts into the math, science and reading curriculums • Develop incentive program for educators to use the new curriculum frameworks and materials.

  12. Policy and Education2010 Action Plan • Develop a FEWC teacher externship program and place Science and/or Math teachers in utility summer positions in 4 Florida regions. Use FEWC/Industry matching funds • Develop an Energy Industry certification for students completing the new energy frameworks curriculum. • Develop a Teacher Certification for the curriculum • Teacher Incentive (Packaged energy teaching materials) • Additional use of web master to develop teacher toolkit • Externship funding

State and National Outreach2009 Key Accomplishments • Finalized FEWC logo • Developed FEWC website (www.fewc.org) with committee content and calendar of events • Developed collaborative relationship with FSEC • Assisted in planning of and participated in Workforce Florida’s Green Jobs Workshop (5/09) • Engaged as partner in Florida preparation for Federal Economic Stimulus Package, including Green Jobs Survey and Florida Energy Sector Partnership – resulted in just over $13M total in energy-related talent development stimulus funding

State and National Outreach2009 Key Accomplishments • Developed action plan for creation of Florida Energy & Industrial Construction Collaborative – secured funding but was reallocated after no successful applications were received for WFI RFP • Continued active engagement with Banner Center for Energy through Jose Farinos • Represented FEWC at CEWD’s State Consortia Summit in Atlanta • Represented FEWC on monthly state consortia team lead calls with CEWD and USDOL • Submitted letter of support from FEWC to Commissioner Eric Smith for FL Dept. of Education’s federal Race to the Top application

State and National Outreach2010 Action Plan • Gain additional members for committee • Continue to develop relationships with SEMTA/ FCURT community in Florida • Develop direct tie to Banner Center for Alternative Energy • Work with CEWD on national energy Credentialing Advisory Council (Jennifer Grove as rep) to ensure Florida’s needs are met. • Work with CEWD to secure resources/ partnership for development of new courses in the Energy Frameworks to ensure alignment with future national curriculum. • Conduct an updated demand study on key occupations of concern, to take into account new hiring projections following economic downturn. • Lead participation of FEWC in CEWD’s 9 state review for potential Gates Foundation funding of energy career pathways model in Florida

  17. Funding and Resources2010 Actions • Update Member benefits documentation as needed • Solicit member contributions on annual basis • Develop 2010-2011 FEWC Budget by June 2010 • Report to FEWC Executive Committee and full consortium on budget status
