SNAP: Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Grant Program Final Rule • Published as an Interim Rule on April 5, 2013 with comments due by June 4, 2013 • FNS is reviewing the 18 comments received for consideration during the rulemaking process and for future SNAP-Ed policy-making • The rule: • Implements SNAP-Ed provisions of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010Section 241. Immediate guidance was provided through the Interim Rule • Continues commitment to low-income population • Provides 100 percent Federal funding based on a formula that considers State shares of SNAP-Ed spending and starting in FY 2014, will also consider State shares of SNAP participation • Interventions • Must be outcome driven • Focus on preventing obesity • May include environmental approaches, public health and community-based interventions, and policy level activities • Coordination with public and private health promotion and nutrition improvement strategies encouraged
