  4. Eligibility Criteria forChinese 1A (3 Units) • No assumed knowledge of Chinese required. This is a subject for (total) beginners with little or no previous knowledge of Chinese. D Lin 2014

How to integrate Chinese language courses into your Degree • As a major: 24 units • As a minor: 18 units • As an elective for non-Arts degrees e.g. Commerce, Medicine, Law, Engineering, etc. • As a Diploma in Languages (Chinese): 24 units e.g. with a Bachelor of Economics, Science, Arts, etc. D Lin 2014

  10. Chinese Major Requirement – 24 units (3 units x 4 courses) + (6 units x 2 courses) = 24 units OR 18/21 units of Chinese languages courses + 6/3 units of Asian Studies courses on China * * subject to approval D Lin 2014

  11. Diploma in Languages (Chinese) Requirement - 24 units (Same as a Major in Chinese) (3 units x 4 courses) + (6 units x 2 courses) = 24 units OR 18/21 units of Chinese languages courses + 6/3 units of Asian Studies courses on China * * subject to approval D Lin 2014

  12. Diploma in Languages • The Diploma consists of studies in a single language over 3 years and is available to students enrolled concurrently in Any degree at the University of Adelaide. • Students enrolled in postgraduate degrees and diplomas are eligible for admission. • Students need the approval of the faculty in which they are enrolled for their Bachelor degree to extend their studies over 1 extra year to accommodate the requirements of the language sequence. • Students graduate with the Diploma in Languages, in addition to their degree. Chinese In-Country Summer School • It is worth 3 units; • It can be counted towards Chinese major, Chinese minor or Diploma in Languages (Chinese); • It is a 5 week intensive language study tour to China from early December to mid-January. The course is provided in conjunction with the Confucius Institute at the University of Adelaide and Shandong University, where the intensive Chinese language program is undertaken. D Lin 2014

Exchange Program • The University has exchange agreements with the following partner universities in China. • Beijing Foreign Studies University • Fudan University • Harbin Institute of Techology • Nanjing University • Shanghai University • Shanghai Jiaotong University • Tsinghua University • University of International Business and Economics • University of Science and Technology of China • Zhejiang University • One semester or a year of exchange can give students up to 9 units towards their major, minor or Diploma in Chinese.
