  1. GIDC DEGREE ENGINEERING COLLEGE BRANCH-CIVIL • ENROLLMENT NO • 131100106042-PATEL YASHKUMAR • 131100106022-NASIT VIMAL PRAFULBHAI • 131100106026-PATEL DIPESHKUMAR JAYANTIBHAI • 131100106016-KUNJ NILAMKUMAR NAIK • 131100106009-GAJERA VIVEK HASMUKHBHAI • 131100106039-PATEL SHIVANIBAHEN BHASKARBHAI • 131100106046-RANA SHIVANI RAJESHBHAI • 131100106057-VAGHASIYA PRATIKKUMAR B • 131100106012-JANI RIDHAM ASOKBHAI • 131100106049-SAVALIYA HARSHKUMAR

  2. INTRODUCTION • Boiler is a closed vessel in which the heat produced by the combustion of fuel is transferred to water for its conversion into steam at the desired temperature and pressure. • Broadly speaking, a boiler is a device used for generating :- • Steam for power generation • Hot water for heating purpose

  3. Definition of boiler according to Indian Boiler Regulation (I.B.R) • It is a closed pressure vessel in which steam is generated with capacity exceeding 25 liters, gauge pressure greater than or equal to 1 kg/cm², and water is heated at 100 °C or above.

  4. STEAM POWER PLANT mechanical power is produced by a heat engine that transforms thermal energy (from combustion of a fuel) into rotational energy Heat (generated in the furnace) is transmitted to the boiler where water forced into the boiler by the feed pump is converted into steam

  5. Primary requirements of Boiler • The primary requirements of steam generators or boilers are: • The water must be contained safely • The steam must be delivered safely in desired conditions as regards its pressure, temperature, quality and required rate

  6. Factors Affecting the Choice (selection) of a Boiler • The selection of type and size of a steam boiler depends upon the following factors: • The power required and the working pressure • Geographical position of the plant • Availability of fuel • Supply and quality of feed water • The probable load factor • Space available • Labour available • Adaptability to the type of furnace and stoker • Steam pressure and superheat desired • Nature and intensity of draught

  7. CLASSIFICATION OF BOILERS The Boilers may be classified as under: • Horizontal boiler, vertical or inclined boilers • Fire tube and water tube boilers • Externally fired and internally fired boilers • Forced circulation and natural circulation boilers • High, medium and low pressure boilers • Stationary boiler and portable boiler • Single tube boilers and multi tube boilers

  8. Basic parts of boiler (boiler details) • Cylindrical shell: different parts of boiler are enclosed & fitted on it • Grate: platform in furnace on which fuel is burnt • Furnace (fire box): space above the grate & below the shell in which combustion takes place • Fire hole: hole through which fuel is added to furnace • Ash pit: area in which ash of burnt coal is collected

  9. Smoke chamber (smoke box): waste gases is collected here & then release to chimney & then to atmosphere • Man hole: hole on boiler shell through which workman can go inside for inspection, cleaning & maintenance • Hand hole: for cleaning water tubes or other internal parts of boiler • Mud box: collects impurities present in water • Blow of cock: impurities collected in mud box is removed by blow of cock

  10. COCHRAN BOILER • SPECIFICATION: • VERTICAL • FIRE TUBE • MULTI TUBE • INTERNALLY FIRED • NATURAL CIRCULATION • STATIONARY BOILER

  11. LANCASHIRE BOILER • SPECIFICATION: • HORIZONTAL • FIRE TUBE • MULTI TUBE • INTERNALLY FIRED • NATURAL CIRCULATION • STATIONARY BOILER • MEDIUM PRESSURE

  12. BABCOCK AND WILCOX BOILER • SPECIFICATION: • HORIZONTAL • WATER TUBE • MULTI TUBE • EXTERNALLY FIRED • NATURAL CIRCULATION • STATIONARY BOILER • HIGH PRESSURE
