  1. Release Status and Plans

  2. Release Status • AliEn v2-7 is finally released • New “old” release • Originally planned and announced for end of January • Meant to contain everything needed for analysis • After releasing it and we started getting a feedback from pilot user (Yves) • This resulted in numerous updates to v2-7 • alien-installer, gapi, …

  3. V2-7 Release Notes • … can be found on the Web • http://alien.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/AliEn/Release2-7 • … as well as the release announcement • http://alien.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/AliEn/Home • … and a pointer to next release • http://alien.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/AliEn/Development • New development release is v2-8 and it is mean to be primarily bug fix release • Should become stable at the end of February

  4. What is new in 2-7? • Fixes to installation procedure and documentation • New catalogue structure • New internal error logging • FTS integration (see Pablo’s talk) • MacOS platform is now fully operational (Jan Fiete) • Update to MonaLisa to handle MacOS platform specific monitoring issues • gapi replaces old API (see talk by Andreas) • Documentation is available (API and shell)

  5. The good news… • Our enthusiastic user(s) are finally able to use the system • It took only 14 days  • Bug reporting via Savannah seem to be functioning well • This is the only way we can go when more users start using the system • We are now ready to open system to more users • hopefully equally enthusiastic

  6. What is next? • V2-7 is frozen • To be given to a few more users • We continue debugging and development in HEAD • New development release (v2-8) will be updated when the bug is fixed in HEAD and release passes the internal testing • This means that users of stable (v2-7) release will have to wait until v2-8 becomes stable or install v2-8 development release knowing that they will have to do frequent updates

  7. (…) • We hope to have FTS fully integrated and tested in v2-8 • Updates to API and aliensh to address bug reports and scalability/reliability of the service • Bug fixes
