  1. 01/08/13Warm up (write this in your notebook) • Using a scale of 1-5 (1-worst, 5-best), give yourself a score on how you did last semester in Biology (or your last science class). • Were you satisfied with that score? • Develop and write a goal that will set you up for Biology success this semester—prepare to share your answer with the class

  2. Welcome to Biology! 01/08/13 Daily Plan: • Meet Emmett (and the anatomy of the female reproductive system) • Mrs. Lutz & Student Teaching/Expectations • New seats!!! • Intro to Genetics – Are You a Taster? Homework/Announcements- • None • First homework due block day

  3. Mrs. Lutz and her husband want to build a house. She is a scientist and only thinks in genetic terms. Create an analogy with the words below to help her husband understand what she is talking about. • Model Home                                                   Alleles • Blueprint                                                         Cells • Directions                                                         Genes • Measurement, angle, toolsChromosomes • Room Designs                                                 DNA

  4. Welcome to Biology! 01/09/13 Objectives: • Students will distinguish between genotype and phenotype by doing an inheritance activity • Students will have fun with punnett squares Daily Plan: • What is a gene video • Review genetic terms, punnett squares • Practice punnett squares • Human trait activity Homework/Announcements- • Punnett square homework due friday

  5. Warm up: Everyone in Squidward’s family has light blue skin, which is the dominant trait for body color in his hometown of Squid Valley. His family brags that they are a “purebred” line. He recently married a nice girl who has light green skin, which is a recessive trait. Create a Punnett square to show the possibilities that would result if Squidward and his new bride had children. Use B to represent the dominant gene and b to represent the recessive gene. A. List the possible genotypes and phenotypes for their children. B. What are the chances of a child with light blue skin? ____% C. What are the chances of a child with light green skin? ____% D. Would Squidward’s children still be considered purebreds? Explain!

  6. Welcome to Biology! 01/11/13 Objectives: • Students will distinguish between genotype and phenotype by doing an inheritance activity • Students will have fun with punnett squares Daily Plan: • Who was Mendel??? • Finish inheritance lab questions—white boards • Finish punnet squares, start vocab assignment Homework/Announcements- • Punnett square homework due today • Genetics vocab due monday
