  1. Conduction, Convection, Radiation 1-4-12 I STARTER: Tape in your warm up, show your work, and properly grid you answer.

  2. II PRACTICE: Today we will be participating in a lab in which you will decide if we are using conduction, convection, or radiation in cooking demo’s. You will summarize the steps for the lab in your practice section.

II PRACTICE: Demo # 1: • Check to make sure hotplate is on and preheating. • Pour a small amount of oil in metal pan and drop in a small pinch of popcorn kernels. • Place pan on hot plate inside of vent hood & close vent hood. • Draw and label results in Application Section * Make sure you tell us whether this is an example of conduction, convection, or radiation.

  4. II PRACTICE: Demo # 2: • Pour a small amount of oil in glass beaker and drop in a small pinch of popcorn kernels. • Heat beaker in microwave. • Draw and label results in Application Section. * Make sure you tell us whether this is an example of conduction, convection, or radiation.

  5. II PRACTICE: Demo # 3: • Pour a small amount of oil in air popper machine and drop in a small pinch of popcorn kernels. • Heat popcorn in air popper. • Draw and label results in Application Section. * Make sure you tell us whether this is an example of conduction, convection, or radiation.

  6. III Application: • In this section you should have draw what you saw happen in each demo and labeled each demo as conduction, convection, or radiation.

  7. IV CONNECTION: • Copy the chart below and if each example is conduction, convection, or radiation.

  8. V EXIT: • Write a well written paragraph (4-5 sentences!) summarizing what you learned today. Also, list any questions you may still have about conduction, convection, radiation.
