  1. Jog Logger KYLE HAGIN KOL KHEANG EEL4914C Senior Design Preliminary Design

  2. Objectives • Design a device that uses GPS data to provide athletes and hobbyists with real time feedback about their performance • Provide an easy to use Color LCD interface • Develop a working prototype to attract investors

  3. Product Expectations • Log paths using GPS data points • Use GPS data to approximate: • Distance to finish line • Estimate total time to finish • Total distance traveled • Current Velocity and position • Display feedback information on the color LCD

  4. Design Requirements Performance Light weight and small size easy to run or bike with Low power consumption Runs on batteries Lithium Ion battery Compact long lasting Less than 5m position accuracy 15 foot radius • Features • Configurable Display • Single or multiple measurements • Touch screen or buttons • Provides an easy to use interface • Real time GPS feedback • Velocity Feedback • Position Tracking

  5. How does it work? • Each blue dot is a gps data point • Approximates the distance between each data point • Stores it in a table • The distance to finish is the sum of the distances in between each dot from the users position on the track

  6. The Board • Phillips LPC2138 • Dual UART • Dual SPI interface • On-board Serial Boot loader • 512K Flash Memory • Mulitiplexer for UART • 4 more UARTS • SD CARD • SPI interface • Fat 16 file format

  7. COLOR LCD1 • Sharp Microelectronics • 2.2 inch diagonal, • 220 x 160 pixel • Built in back light • Inverter & graphics driver chip onboard • 8 bit parallel interface with 18 bit per pixel

  8. COLOR LCD2 • Microtips USA • Touch screen capability • 320 x 240 pixel • 8 bit interface, 18 bit per pixel performance • Smaller

  9. GPS Module • Trimble Lassen IQ • <5m Position Accuracy • +/- 0.06m/s Velocity Accuracy • 12 satellites • DGPS
