  5. Vasco Nunez de Balboa • Led an expedition through Central America and reached the Pacific Ocean. Isthmus

  6. Francisco Pizarro • Conquered the Incan Empire in South America.

  7. Hernando de Soto • The first European to see the Mississippi River.

  8. Ferdinand Magellan • His crew was the first to sail around the world. He died in battle during the voyage.
