  1. Sector 56 – status Gianluigi for the Machine Check-Out Team (Mike, Reyes, Rossano, LHC-EICs/OP, Mirko) LHCCWG

  2. Status of Sector 56 • Got the sector on Wednesday afternoon after: • Quench at 2 kA of the magnet • Ramp to nominal current of the RBs • At present all power converters/circuits available except: • Triplet Correctors, RTQX1, RMSD (this should be available this afternoon) LHCCWG

  3. Activities • Activities ongoing in the Sector last week during mornings (Mirko): • Alignment of the vacuum chambers in dump lines • Dump line vacuum • Shielding Q5 (completed) • Bake-out of CMS vacuum chamber (completed) • MSD gaussmeter (completed) • Power converter performance and debugging (corr., ROD) • Trying to group activities next week: • Other activities for experiments (ZDC,TOTEM) • TIM installation • Power converter performance and debugging (corr., ROD) • BLM tests • Installation of protections for power converters in RR57 • Clean-up of the sector • Dump line vacuum • Alignment of the vacuum chambers in dump lines • Cool-down and test of sector 56 quench lines (to P5 and to P6) • Cold Compressors recovery tests • Large Quench recovery test • …. LHCCWG

  4. Performance 600 A • After the reload of the SW of the QPS in 56 and discussion with HWC tested all 600 power converters up to 0.1 A/s2 and 3 A/s. Keep the best performance so far for those that passed the test. • 7 power converters failed the test  keep HWC values for the time being and passed back to HWC to test with QPS expert: • RPMBB.UA63.RSD1.A56B1 • RPMBB.UA63.RSD2.A56B1 • RPMBB.UA63.RSF1.A56B1 • RPMBB.UA63.RSF2.A56B1 • RPMBA.UA63.RQT13.L6B2 • RPMBB.UA63.RCD.A56B2 • RPMBA.RR57.RQTL11.R5B1 LHCCWG

  5. Performance 600 A • Tested ramp and squeeze to 0.55 m (only point 5): • OK for the present ramp/acceleration rates, main limit coming from Q6.R5 (Stephane trying to optimize that) • Squeeze takes a bit less than 20 mins • To be tested with settings for simultaneous squeeze of IR1/5  variation of the strength of the RSxx doubles • Sextupole functions for B2 to be tested • Need to verify the behaviour when stopping at intermediate values and trimming/incorporating tune, chromaticity trims: • Say: DQ=0.01, DQ’=20 • Need to include ROF/D Landau octupoles LHCCWG

  6. Alarms and SIS • Alarms for PC/QPS/PIC available and tested • PC alarm mapping is correct but still a lot of warnings, being addressed by PO • Reduction still to be applied when more than one alarm  Markus • Vacuum pressure alarms available • Vacuum valves alarms should be available by Thursday • SIS: power supply status verified & OK (except for a few power supplies not surveyed – to be followed-up with Jörg) LHCCWG

  7. Issues so far • Intermittent loss of 60 A Power Permit: being investigated with CO, PO and CRI • Trips of QTL11.R5B2 when going in standby with all the power converters • PM for some power converter signals not synchronized • Issues for BLM and BPM front-end stability and concentrators LHCCWG

  8. On-going • RB-RQF-RQD synchronization • EMC measurements for BLMs/collimators LHCCWG

  9. To be done • Squeeze to intermediate levels, trims and 600 A tests • Ramp-down and pre-cycle (including octupoles) • Injection decay and snap-back • Sequencing LHCCWG
