Introduction • Don’t you love the holidays season? There are presents all around and good food to eat. We all have special traditions within our own families. • But, what about children in different countries? Do they celebrate Christmas too? Do they eat the same foods as we do and have some of the same traditions? • This WebQuest will let you explore how our world celebrates Christmas.
Task • Your task will be to research the different ways people celebrate Christmas. • There will be three roles in each group: • A navigator • A scribe • A fact finder • You will work together to find the information to fill in the graphic organizer and create a poster. • Finally, you will present your information to the class.
The Navigator • Your role will be to use your navigational skills to lead the group through the activity. • The tool you will use is the computer.
The Scribe • Your role as scribe is to write the information you and your group find on the graphic organizer. • Get a graphic organizer from the social studies box.
The Fact Finder • Your role as fact finder is to guide your group through the informational pages and find the answers to the questions on the graphic organizer. You are the reader.
Resources • You will need: • A graphic organizer • A computer • A large piece of white paper • Several markers – lots of colors
Process • Each group will be assigned a country to research by the teacher. • Groups will be assigned by the teacher but your group must decide together which student is assigned to each role. • Each student must read their roles, know their responsibilities, and get the resources needed to complete the tasks.
Process • The final outcome of your project will be a graphic organizer with your countries information and a colorful poster that gives details and pictures about how your country celebrates Christmas. Your group will present both to the class. • This Web Quest will take three days. The first day will be spent gathering your information and the second day will be used to make your poster. The final day your group will present your information and poster to the class. • Task #1 • Task #2 • Task #3
Task #1 • Your first task is to find and record your information. • Use the following web sites to research your country. • The North Pole • Christmas • Christmas Around the World • Christmas in different Countries • Make sure you answer all the question. Click here to check the rubric. Each group will self evaluate. You will find a copy of the rubric in the top box. • When your group has completed the graphic organizer, put it in the social studies box. You will need the information to complete Task #2 and Task #3
Task #2 • Your second task is to design a poster to share during your presentation. The poster must display the information that you found during your research and use colorful detailed pictures to give examples of different traditions, foods, or songs. • Click here to check the rubric. Task #3 • Your third task is to present your information and poster to the class. Your poster needs to be colorful and detailed. Your group must present the information clear and accurately. • Click here to see the rubric. Each group will self evaluate. You will find a copy of the rubric in the bottom box.
Evaluation • Check each of the following rubrics for task guidelines: • Rubric – Graphic Organizer • Rubric – Poster • Rubric – Presentation • Remember to have your group self evaluate using all three rubrics. Then hand them in to your teacher.
Conclusion • Congratulations! You now know how children in other countries celebrate Christmas.
