Rise to Power • Gandhi set examples by abandoning westernize style clothing. Making others follow in Gandhi’s steps. • Gandhi also called for boycotts of British goods and encouraged people to wear only cotton grown and woven clothing.
Biography • Gandhi, born Mohandas Karamchand on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar, Kathiawar, West India . • In 1888 Gandhi had perused a degree in a Law.
Beliefs Gandhi had a strong non-violence policy. By living in civil disobedience (the refusal to obey laws). Gandhi took his punishment for his non violent acts. This made Britain look bad by hurting Gandhi for being peaceful. He taught about how you shouldn’t discriminate against people for their religion or race. He believed in truth and equality. He had 4 important ideas: truth, non-violence, renunciation, self-rule.
His impact on India • Gandhi fought for independence and civil rights in India. India finally became independent in 1947, when Gandhi was 78. • Gandhi was one of the main reasons India became an independent country.
His Impact on the world • Gandhi fought for civil rights in India. • This inspired other groups of people to fight for their civil rights. • Martin Luther King jr. was very inspired by Gandhi and his work.
