Nourishing The Body • Nourishing the body. • Carbohydrates, Proteins & Fats. • Not all are equal • Consequences of bad nutrition and good nutrition. • Starved but overweight. • Toxins in the body. • The body does not function optimally. • Nourishing the body. • What we look at, listen to, read, think about and who we spend time with and allow to influence us. • What we feed our spirit and mind affects our spiritual health. • It can nourish us or leave us starved. • It can leave toxins in our mind and spirit. • We don’t function properly.
Unhealthy Bodies • Skinny by means of starving. • Overweight but malnourished. • Skinny by means of starving. • Religious – Jesus spoke of whitewashed tombs and cups cleaned on the outside but not on the inside. Matt 23:26-27 • Overweight but malnourished. • Filling your life full of things that don’t feed your spirit or pollute your mind and heart.
The Energy Systems • Aerobic – with oxygen. • Long steady runs, day to day activities, cardio. • Blood glucose, glucose and fat are used as fuel. • Anaerobic – without oxygen. • Anaerobic Glico lactic (Glycogen System) • Weight lifting and sprints. • Glucose is the fuel. • Creatine Phosphate System or Phosphagen System • All out exercise for 10 seconds. • Fuel – it’s complicated. lol • The Aerobic – our day to day living. • Anaerobic – The uncomfortable moments. May be faith building or character building. (Jeni) • Building up faith in the tough moments can make us stronger and better able to have faith through the unexpected.
The Muscles • Types of muscle. • Slow twitch – aerobic type work. • Fast twitch – for lifting and more intense work. • Fast twitch type 1 • Fast twitch type 2 • Muscle • Movement • Strength *Muscle is meant to be smooth and flexible. Not hard. • Kinds of muscle. • Smooth • Skeletal • Cardiac • Muscle doesn’t work correctly under these conditions: • Sedentary/not used • Over use • Muscle imbalance • Trauma • Disease
Things that hinder movement • Sedentary • Weak muscle from lack of use. • Over used • Muscle becomes hard. • A breaking down of the muscle that over time can cause scaring or tearing. • May need stretching, resting, massage or other treatment. • After time will need to move again. • Muscle imbalance • One muscle stronger or weaker then the other. • Muscles in a group together or in opposition to each other. • Both work together. • Trauma • Injury or accident. • Burse or tear. • May need treatment. • Sedentary • Not moving forward. • Apathetic. • Need for adventure. • Over used • Try to do too much. • Injure ourselves. • It’s spiritual to rest so we can move correctly. • Muscle imbalance • One member stronger or weaker then the others. • How do we handle this? • How does it hinder movement? • Stretching, strengthening, moving. • Trauma • Can be caused by me. • Can be caused by someone else. • May require extra help to heal. • Stretching, moving, other care.
The Race • The world calls it a rat race. • Rat Race implies climbing over others. • Win or be climbed over. • God calls it the race set before us. • He speaks about training and perseverance. • This is not about striving. The Rat Race is striving. It’s trying hard but getting no where. (Story of people in the gym working hard- no change). It’s about body, soul and spirit health. It doesn’t have to be as hard as we sometimes make it.
The Race • Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. • 1 Cor9:23-27
The race • Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. • Heb 12:1-3
Your Exercise Recommendations. lol • Purposeful in what we take in and how we spend our time. • Connecting to God in the every day and not shying away from the tough stuff but letting him walk through with us – grows our faith for the unexpected. • Healing – working through the tough stuff and moving when we don’t feel like it. Bring those around us with us. • Purposeful living/training instead of striving.
