The poorest of the people are left to be vinedressers and husbandman. • The great pillars of bronze before the temple are carried away. • Jeremiah is given the choice of going to Babylon or to remain with the people; he chooses to stay with the people. • Gedaliah is appointed governor over the people; he is murdered by Ishmael who fled to Ammon. • The temple, king’s houses, and every significant house in the city is burned. • The people become afraid and ask Jeremiah to inquire of God what they should do…but still do what they want to do. • Jeremiah is forced to go to Egypt and apparently dies there. Lessons from Ezekiel; Ch. 37 612 520 430 593-571 • The Valley of Dry Bones: • “The hand of the LORD came upon me and brought me out in the Spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones.” • “Son of man, can these bones live?” Ezekiel replies, “O LORD GOD, You know.” • God tells Ezekiel to prophesy to the bones. • God will cause bones to join together and • God will put sinews (tendons) and flesh on them, and cover them with skin then • God would put breath into them and they would live. • “Then you shall know that I am the LORD.”

  6. Lessons from Ezekiel; Ch. 37 612 520 430 593-571 • The Valley of Dry Bones: • Ezekiel prophesies as he has been instructed. As he prophesied, there was a noise, and a rattling. The bones came together, bone to bone.

  7. As he looked the sinews and flesh came upon them, and skin covered them. But there was no breath in them.

  8. God tells Ezekiel to prophesy to the WIND, “Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.” • Breath came into them, they lived and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.

Lessons from Ezekiel; Ch. 37 612 520 430 593-571 • The Valley of Dry Bones – explained vs. 11-14: • God tells Ezekiel to prophesy… • God will open up your graves and cause you to come up from your graves. • God will bring you into the land of Israel. • You shall know that I am the LORD when I have opened up your graves. • God will place His spirit in them and they shall live. • Then they would “know that I, the LORD, have spoken and performed it.”

  11. Lessons for Today 1900 2000 2016 Jehovah is the God who is powerful enough to do whatever it takes to accomplish His purpose. HE IS IN CONTROL OF EVERYTHING Therefore we should never doubt that God will be able to accomplish what He has said He will do.

  12. Lessons from Ezekiel; Ch. 37 612 520 430 593-571 • One Kingdom, One King (vs. 15-28): • Again the word of the LORD came to Ezekiel… For Judah and for the children of Israel, his companions. For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel, his companions.

Lessons from Ezekiel; Ch. 37 612 520 430 593-571 • One Kingdom, One King (vs. 15-28): • God will take the children of Israel from among the nations, wherever they have gone, and will gather them and bring them into their own land. • He will make them one nation in the land. • One king shall be king over them all. • They would no longer be two nations, neither would they ever be divided again. For Judah and for the children of Israel, his companions. For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel, his companions.

  14. Lessons from Ezekiel; Ch. 37 612 520 430 593-571 • One Kingdom, One King (vs. 15-28): • David My servant shall be king over them, and they shall have one shepherd. (one shepherd speaking of Christ) • God would make a covenant of peace with them, an everlasting covenant. (Remember Daniel spoke of the Kingdom that would grow and be everlasting) • His sanctuary would be set in their midst for evermore. • “I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” For Judah and for the children of Israel, his companions. For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel, his companions.

In the first 3 chapters of Daniel we saw the answer to Nebuchadnezzar’s dream • He learned that Jehovah is the Most High God • He learned that Jehovah rules in the afairs of men • He came close to a true belief in Jehovah • He was able to conquer Judah only because God allowed him to do so • God set him on the throne and God can take him off the throne • Nebuchadnezzar was brought to appreciate Jehovah as the One True God

  17. Lessons from Daniel; Ch. 4 612 520 430 605-536 • Nebuchadnezzar’s Second Dream: • A great tree growing in the midst of the earth. It’s height reached the heavens; it’s leaves were lovely and fruit abundant; food for all the animals; shelter for the animals. • You saw the holy one coming down from heaven… “chop down the tree and cut off its branches, strip off its leaves and scatter it’s fruit” • Leave the stump and roots in the earth, bind with a band of iron and bronze. Let it be wet with the dew of heaven and let him graze with the beasts on the grass of the earth. • Let his heart be changed from that of a man and given the heart of a beast & let seven times pass over him.

Lessons from Daniel; Ch. 4 612 520 430 605-536 • Nebuchadnezzar’s Second Dream: • The message from the Holy One…in order that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and He gives it to whomever He will, and will set him over it • NOT good news for Nebuchadnezzar • YOU O King are the TREE • Your Kingdom is about to end • Break off your sins by doing righteousness so that your errors are corrected & avoid tragedy

A full year passes and the king was walking in the palace • Isn’t this the great city of Babylon which I have built for my royal dwelling place by MY GREAT POWER • At that moment a voice spoke saying, “ These words are for you O KING” • He was driven from men to dwell in the field and eat grass the same hour • Babylon begins to declines

Years to the fall of Babylon • Nebuchadnezzar ruled until 562 B.C. • Followed upon the throne by his son, Evil-Merodach. • Evil-Merodach reigned for two years and was then assassinated. • His brother-in-law, Neriglissar, succeeded him in 560 B.C. • He died in 556 B.C. and was followed by his infant son, Labashi-Marduk. The infant was slain by conspirators who placed one of their own upon the throne – Nabonidus (556-539 B.C.)

  21. The rise of Persia • Cyrus rose to power in the small kingdom of Persia in 559 B.C. • At this time, Persia was under the control of the growing might of the Median Empire.

  23. The rise of Persia • Nabonidus (Babylon) made an alliance with Cyrus to counter the Median threat. He took Tema in northern Arabia and made it a second capital, in addition to Babylon. • There is some belief that Nabonidus favored the moon-god Sin over the god of Babylon, Marduk. Nabonidus failed to attend annual ceremonies in Babylon to pledge his subjection to Marduk. This was something only the king could do, but Nabonidus left activities in Babylon in the care of his son, Belshazzar.

  24. The rise of Persia • In 550 B.C., the Median and Persian armies met in battle. Cyrus conquered the Median army and made himself monarch of the empire which he named Medo-Persian. • Nabonidus quickly sought alliances with Lydia and with the Egyptians but to no avail. • In 546 B.C., Cyrus added the kingdom of Lydia to his empire. • In 539 B.C., he then turns his attention to Babylon.
