Conclusions and future work • We calibrated and used the Ecopath with Ecosim model to simulate impacts of hypoxia on the food web and fisheries of Lake Erie’s Central Basin from 1994-2005. • Model results suggest hypoxia may: decrease biomass of benthos, their predators (e.g. yellow perch) and piscivores (e.g., walleye) by decoupling trophic interactions; but have minor effects on zooplankton and planktivores (e.g., rainbow smelt). • For our next steps, we will model scenarios of hypoxia impacts on food webs and fisheries harvest under future nutrient loading scenarios, and current and future invasive species.
