  5. Water is precious • Getting clean and safe water to your home, school or place of work requires a lot of effort and uses a lot of energy • It is easy to take this water for granted but we all need to do more to conserve it and use it more wisely

  6. Using water How many times have you used water today? Can you think of the different activities you have done today which use water?

  7. Water quiz An average bucket can hold 5 litres of water How many buckets of water do you think you use every day?

  8. On average a person in the Thames Water region uses 163 litres of tap water every day! In sub-Saharan Africa, where water is harder to find and collect the average person uses just 30 litres of water each day. That’s 33 buckets of water! That’s just 6 buckets of water!

  11. Save water – at home • Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth • Spend a minute less in the shower • Fit a Save-a-Flush device to your toilet • Fully load your washing machine • Fix dripping taps • Order a water butt

Save water – at school • Report any leaks or drips to teachers or site managers • Turn off running taps in the toilets, classrooms and in art / technology rooms • Talk to site managers and caretakers who can install push taps to avoid too much water being used and look at improving the flushing systems on the toilets • If there is an environmental action group get them involved in leading the changes

  17. Bin it, don’t block it! Over 55,000 sewer blockages each year are caused by people putting the wrong things down the drain: • Cooking fats • Food waste • Nappies • Face wipes, baby wipes and cotton buds can all cause a problem The message from our sewer flushers is “bin it, don’t block it!”
