    ROAD TRIP!!

  2. Introduction You have just finished college and have decided to venture out on your own, before starting your new career. You thought that with your graduation money, $20,000, you would take a drive and see the country from behind the steering wheel of your new car. During this trip, you will need to plan a trip from your house to a city on the East Coast. While visiting your East Coast City, be sure to look for events that you might be interested in seeing. Examples are concerts, sporting events, shows, and etc. You will also need to find a 5-star restaurant to dine at for one night. Most importantly you will need a hotel to stay in for a minimum of 2 nights. After visiting the East Coast, you will plan a cross country trip to a West Coast City, before planning your return trip to Denver. You may not travel to the West Coast via the same route you took to head east. This journey will take a ton of careful planning. If you don’t stay focused with your planning, you may end up stranded on the side of the road, out of gas, or not having a hotel to sleep in when you get to your destination. Home
  3. Your Task Internet: Map out your routes Find hotels for your overnight stay Find a place to dine out Purchase tickets to an event of your choice Excel: Record your gas stops Record your hotel stops Record your dining experience Record your activities Create a Pie Chart showing the break down of your money spent Multimedia: Create a presentation showing all the stops, maps, hotels, restaurants, and activities you planned. Include a slide that shows where the money was spent. Presentation: Present your trip to the class in a professional manner HOME
  4. CAR CHOICE During this stage, you will need to decide what car you are going to choose. Remember this is a graduation gift, so it is the car you want to drive for the next 7 years. Your $20,OO0 in graduation money is not used towards the car. You will need to calculate the number of gallons of gas your car will hold. Then, you will need to calculate how many miles your car will travel on one tank of gas. Below are a few car company websites. You may need to use search engine to find your specific car. ToyotaPorsche FordBMW ChevroletLand Rover HondaMercedes-Benz KiaSubaru HOME
  5. EAST COAST CITY During this stage of your planning, you will need to choose an East Coast City. You will need to choose a city from the following states: Don’t forget you will need to think of events and restaurants that you may want to visit. Now would be a good time to take out the Recording Sheet. 6. MAP MY DRIVE During this phase of your planning you will need to map out the route you will be traveling. This portion has several key aspects to pay close attention to. Not only do you have to map out the entire route, you have to plan out your stops for gas and hotels after your 8 hours of driving is up. Gas stops are dependent upon how far your car can go on a single tank. If your planning is wrong, you will be stranded on the side of the road out of gas. Be sure to stay within your driving range! Overnight stay, you may not find a place exactly after 8 hours of driving. The maximum allowed time is 9 hours, so you should plan to sleep somewhere between 8-9 hours. Be sure to use the, Recording Sheet. GOOGLE MAPS MAPQUEST View the tutorial on how to find the distances for your gas stops and hotel stops: TUTORIAL HOME
  7. GAS PRICES After you have found all of your gas stops, you can use the following website to find the price of gas in that area. All you will have to do is type in the nearest town/city and the state. My advice is to use the cheapest station. Don’t forget to calculate how much gas you will have to put in your gas tank to fill it up. Average fill-up should be 2 less gallons than what it takes to fill up your car. Record this information on the Recording Sheet. Example: Car holds a total of 17 gallons; each stop will need 15 gallons to fill your car. If you want to step it up a level, you can use your actual driving range to fill up your car at each stop. GAS PRICES HOMEMAP MY DRIVE

  18. TUTORIAL Using the maps! You will need to click on the get directions tab at either site. Your starting location is Littleton, CO. Be specific on your Destination City. This should be the address of your hotel. After the route is highlighted in blue you will be able to place markers for your gas stops as well as your hotel stops. To do this, zoom the map in enough to city the cities better. Then you will need to click on the route until the hand appears. Next right click your mouse, and click on Add Stop. You may have to readjust it so that it falls within the gas range and driving time. Be sure to record this information so you can find gas and hotels. When your route is complete, be sure to embed the link into your powerpoint, so your map saves. MAP YOUR DRIVEHOMEWARD BOUND CROSS-COUNTRYHOME
