  1. Preschool Curriculum Night Here is an overview of our components and how we foster all aspects of your child’s learning throughout the day. 10/23/12

  3. Please visit the LWC website and hover over “About Us” and click on Pictures and Videos. Click on the link for “Paco for Parents” to view a Parent video of Paco. Good Morning Paco is where the children discover the topic of the day, we go along with our Monthly Units and introduce new concepts which are re-iterated throughout the day. You children learns turn taking, patience, social skills and behavior skills as well as academic skills during this component.

  5. Activities • Children act out finger plays, sing songs, and chant rhymes. • Children learn vocabulary and use vocabulary related to lessons being taught. • Children learn phonemic awareness while rhyming, moving and dancing.

  6. Importance of Rhyme While learning to read is difficult and challenging for most children, rhyme can help make the task both easier and more fun, teach important language skills, and teach language patterns and structure. These benefits are important reasons to make rhyme a part of your child’s early childhood.

  8. Rake the Leaves • I like to rake the leaves into a great big hump • Then I stand back a bit • Bend my knees and jump

  11. Let’s Move in Our Curriculum Our schedule allows for two 30 minute periods allotted for gross motor activities. During these periods, teachers provide students with various theme related gross motor activities. Children are also provided with time to explore gross motor activities independently

  12. Benefits of Gross Motor Activity Increases confidence and improves self-esteem. Improves school attendance and enhances academic performance. Relieves stress and frustration. Helps improve motor coordination. Improves memory and brain function.

  13. Benefits of Gross Motor Activity Increases ability to concentrate. Provides children with opportunities to interact with others. Enhances social and emotional skills. Improves the quantity and quality of sleep.

  23. During Whoo’s Reading the children engage in story reading and telling. • They are asked questions related to the story to promote comprehension and recall skills. • We re-read books to further their comprehension and memory.

  25. This is the time of day, we reinforce the theme-related vocabulary and concepts by using games, charts and the retelling of stories.

  26. We want to engage the children in an active review of what they have done today and leave them with a positive feeling about what they have learned.

  27. Remember, Recall, Retell uses all areas of learning to summarize what we have experienced in our day. • We can reinforce the letter of the week, • We can use math skills to graph or compare, • We can use science skills to observe or predict, • We can use our social studies skills to reinforce thematic concepts.
